Germany's state-subsidised private pension introduced in 2002, with allowances and tax benefits but often high costs and a mandatory capital guarantee. From 2027 no new Riester contracts can be signed; existing ones keep their subsidy and can be moved into the new Altersvorsorgedepot on request.
